disaster strikes...

Yesterday was quite an eventful day.....yesterday was a very hot day....no wait, yesterday sucked!
The sweltering heat of yesterday caused its first and hopefully its last victims in the rabbitry. We lost 3 does and several babies due to what we can only believe to be extreme temperatures.  Fans were going and blowing but hot air doesn't care.
Hopefully today goes better as we have supersized our fans and have ice bottles ready to go. In all my years of "bunnying" I can say that I have never suffered such a loss by heat or any other variable.  You might ask why I chose to write this info down for you to read. The answer is simple. If you were not already planning to deal with these temperatures, please do so now. Make sure all the water is flowing, that the air is moving and that there is no overcrowding but above all else be prepared for what could happen even if you do everything right.
I am thankful that the orphaned bunnies are all eating on their own so fostering will not have to be an option. We will keep a watchful eye on them as time goes on.
Until next time...
